In week 14 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Atlas will host Santos Laguna at the Estadio Jalisco this Saturday, April 15, 2017 (5:00 PM Pacific). Both teams are fighting for a spot in the playoffs in the contested Liga MX and could use the three points from the match.
Atlas has been a pleasant surprise this tournament, currently in seventh place with 19 points. The ‘rojinegros’ are undefeated in their last three games, coming off a 1-1 draw to Pumas UNAM last Wednesday. Jose Guadalupe Cruz has counted with a potent offense this Clausura scoring 20 goals, which has been the fourth best this tournament.
Matias Alustiza and Martin Barragan have combined for 11 goals, creating a deadly strike force. In the game against Pumas UNAM, Clifford Aboagye scored his first goal of the season, the African player stepping up in the last few games. Atlas has a formidable team that can compete with anyone this Clausura when playing at the Estadio Jalisco.
Santos Laguna has also surprisingly kept up with the results and is now in sixth place with 20 points. The ‘guerreros’ are coming from a 2-2 draw against a very tough opponent in Monterrey. The biggest problem for the team from Torreon has been maintaining leads. The draw against Monterrey being their eighth of the year and their sixth blown lead that resulted in a draw.
Before the game against the ‘rayados’, Santos did enjoy two consecutive victories against Queretaro and Pachuca. Santos Laguna has failed to obtain a win away from home this Clausura, getting five draws and a loss. This game should prove to be a complicated encounter for Jose Manuel de la Torre and company, especially away from the Estadio Corona TSM.
