Ex-Sunderland man explains reason behind £14million transfer

Crystal Palace defender Patrick Van Aanholt has revealed why he forced former club Sunderland to sell him.

The Netherlands international joined Palace from the Black Cats in January for £14 million after informing the Sunderland hierarchy that he had no longer wished to play for the club.

The 26-year-old has now revealed that he did this as he did not enjoy the training methods used by David Moyes and was losing his love for the game at The Stadium of Light.

He said, “I did not enjoy David Moyes’ training sessions. Eventually I lost my love for the game, and went into the dressing-room feeling annoyed every day.”

Sunderland are currently looking destined for relegation as they are ten points adrift from safety and in poor form.

While Palace are fighting for survival they are currently in 16th position on the League standings and three points above the drop zone. By moving to Palace, Van Aanholt certainly improved his chances of playing in the Premier League next season.
