Former Liverpool star turned pundit, Danny Murphy, has reportedly suggested that Everton and Newcastle could sign Jermain Defoe during the summer.

With Sunderland likely to be relegated at the end of the season, the 34-year-old will be looking to find a few Premier League team as he aims to make the England squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Due to Defoe’s ability to score goals on a regular basis as he has done this season with the Black Cats as well as his vast experience, he is likely to not be short off options.

“This would be very controversial but you could see Newcastle looking at him if they won promotion,” Murphy wrote in The London Evening Standard, “Perhaps if Everton lose Romelu Lukaku, they will decide Defoe would do a good job for them.”

The experience of Defoe will be valuable to either team but he will probably be looking for a team that can offer him as much playing time as possible.
