Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has been handed a six game ban and will miss all but one of their remaining Championship fixtures this season. The ban comes as a result of the 25-year-old’s stamp on Reece Oxford during last weekend’s defeat to Reading.
Cooper had pleaded guilty to charges of misconduct in the hope of limiting his punishment. The FA however handed him an addition of one game after he also suffered a red card during The Whites FA Cup loss to Sutton United in January.
This will come as a blow to Gary Monk, who will now be deprived off a defensive option, as his side look to gain promotion to the Premier League. Cooper will however be available for the final match of the season as well as the play-offs.
Though Cooper has spent much of the season as a backup option, he surprisingly replaced Pontus Jansson in the starting line- up prior to his misconduct.
