According to reports, Everton are set to battle Chelsea for the signature of defender Stefan de Vrij. De Vrij previously played under Toffees’ boss Ronald Koeman during his time with Dutch club Feyenoord and is reportedly eyeing a reunion with the 25 year old.
It now appears that de Vrij is almost certain to leave Lazio at the end of the season after refusing to sign a new contract with the Serie A outfit.
Chelsea will probably be the destination of choice for the Netherlands international. They are on top-form and in addition to being good enough to challenge for the Premier League next season, they also offer the prospect of Champions League football – which is something Everton do not have at this point in time.
Lazio are also said to be demanding a transfer fee in the region of €30 million for the services of de Vrij and this may prove to beyond the capabilities of Everton.
