West Ham reportedly plotting shock move for ex-Arsenal man

According to The Sun, West Ham are considering signing former Arsenal defender Johan Djourou on a free transfer during the summer.

The Hamburg defenders contract expires at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether he will extend his stay at the Bundesliga outfit. Crystal Palace attempted to sign the 30 year old during the January transfer window but Hamburg, who are trying to avoid relegation this season, refused to do business.

Djourou was a product of the youth development system of Arsenal and was handed his professional debut by Arsene Wenger in 2004. After failing to establish himself as a regular within the starting lineup at the Gunners, he left the club for Hamburg in 2014 having notching 144 appearances.

Djourou may consider returning to the Premier League especially if Hamburg are relegated. He may also be a good addition to the West Ham squad due to his experience and seeing that the Hammers have been struggling defensively this season.
