UPDATE: Today’s July 11, 2017 FRIENDLY match between Club America and Morelia can be watched LIVE ONLINE on FuboTV.
Club America will play Monarcas Morelia in a friendly match during the International break at the Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California this Sunday, March 26, 2017 (4:25 PM Pacific). Both teams are contending for a playoff spot in this Clausura with their own sets of problems accompanying them.
Club America is currently in ninth place in the tournament with 14 points, just out of a playoff spot due to goal differential. The ‘aguilas’ are coming into this game in great form having beat rivals, Pumas UNAM 3-2 away from home. Oribe Peralta, Cecilio Dominguez and Silvio Romero providing the goals for the ‘azulcremas’. The ‘capitalinos’ also have their share of problems, under-performing massively to what the expectations normally are for the very demanding fan base.
This game could potentially serve as a way for Ricardo La Volpe to give more playing time to the younger players on the roster like Edson Alvarez, Diego Lainez and Gerson Torres. La Volpe will be missing four players for this match due to international callups in Oribe Peralta, Bruno Valdez, Miguel Samudio and Cecilio Dominguez. America will have a large fan base in San Jose and it should be interesting to see how the game goes for Ricardo La Volpe.
The last time these two teams faced each other, America defeated Monarcas Morelia by a score of 2-0 in week five at the competition at the Estadio Morelos. Since that game the team from Michoacán has been on a nice run, winning three out of five points. The three victories in this span have all been vital against other relegation candidates in Chiapas, Veracruz and Puebla. This run of good form has launched ‘la monarquia’ to a playoff spot, now in seventh place with 14 points.
The Monarchs still have their problems, but Roberto Hernandez has helped slowly solve those problems, now with a four-point lead over Veracruz on the relegation table. Hernandez will be without some key players due to the international break in Gabriel Achilier, Andy Polo and Raul Ruidiaz. A large fan base is also expected to be in San Jose for Monarcas Morelia due to many people from Michoacan who reside in Northern California. It should be a sold-out crowd this Sunday in San Jose with a vibrant atmosphere, between two teams fighting for a playoff spot this Clausura.
