Roberto Martinez does not want talented attacker to join Everton

Speculation has become rife that Belgian youngster Youri Tielemans will be joining Everton during the summer after the youngster himself refused to rule out a transfer to the Merseyside club last month.

Former Everton boss Roberto Martinez, who manages Tielemans at international level, believes that the 19-year-old would be better off remaining with Anderlecht and developing his game.

Tielemans has shown flashes of brilliance and there is no doubt that Everton will keep their eyes on him next month when Anderlecht face off against English Premiership club Manchester United in the Europa League.

Martinez said, “It is important that he continues to challenge himself and I mean it is not that a transfer is absolutely necessary.

“I see him constantly progressing, but sometimes his game may be a little too ‘simple’. In addition, his winning mentality can be even better. He needs to really want to win more games.”

Tielemans will know that current Toffees boss Ronald Koeman enjoys playing young players in his first team, so a move to the club will definitely appeal to him.
