Adnan Januzaj believes that he has improved as a player as his current loan deal with Sunderland and that the spell has helped him to improve mentally and technically. The Belgian is on a season long loan deal with the struggling Premiership outfit and has bagged one goal from 22 matches.
The 22 year old said to the Sunderland Echo, “I have always been working on my set pieces. In training sometimes when I have the chance to do it I take it. It is always a plus to score a goal or get an assist.
“You learn more when it gets difficult. First season I played a lot of football and it is also about confidence – when you have that from the manager you get better. We were used to winning games at Manchester United. You have to win. That is the result you have to get.
“You come to Sunderland and they always play for the battle to stay in the league. It is different. Mentally you have to be strong because you are losing games and drawing. It is not easy, that is hard but you learn a lot.”
It remains to be seen whether Jose Mourinho will decide to bring back the Belgian international to the United setup during the summer.
After making his first team debut for United in 2013, many had expected Januzaj to become a breakout superstar. However inconsistency led to him dropping down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
He subsequently went on a loan spell with German club Borussia Dortmund last season which was very unsuccessful and was sent to the Black Cats for this season.
