In the CONMEBOL 2018 World Cup qualifiers, Uruguay will host Brazil at the Estadio Centenario this Thursday, March 23, 2017 (4:00 PM Pacific). Both teams are among the best in the CONMEBOL qualification standings and should provide a great match this Thursday.

Uruguay is currently in second place with 23 points on the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualification table. The standings are tight in the CONMEBOL and a loss can prove to be detrimental with only four points separating second place Uruguay to fifth place, Argentina. The ‘charruas’ will also be without Luis Suarez and Fernando Muslera for this game which can prove to be a big blow to the team. Oscar Tabarez still counts with a very strong side with Edinson Cavani leading the way.

Tabarez also counts with three players from the Liga MX in Egidio Arevalo Rios, Jonathan Urretaviscaya and Carlos Sanchez. While Sanchez and Arevalo Rios have represented their country several times, this is Jonathan Urretaviscaya’s first call to the ‘charruas’. The midfielder from Pachuca has had a fantastic tournament in the Liga MX with a goal and five assists in 9 games as a starter. It will be interesting to see what side Oscar Tabarez does play and whether any Liga MX players will be in it.

Brazil has been the best team so far in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers in first place with 27 points. The first time these two teams met, fans received an exciting 2-2 draw in Brazil. The five-time World Cup champions had a 2-0 lead after 25 minutes, but could not take advantage of the lead at home. Brazil has eight wins, three draws and only one loss in this competition so far.

Tite will count with a strong side with players like Dani Alves, Marcelo, Philippe Coutinho, Willian and Neymar. Despite having an incredible offense, Brazil’s main strength will be in its defense having only conceded nine goals in this competition so far. The match should be one of the best this week with some of the world’s best players participating in this encounter.
