There is no secret that Liverpool have struggled with wingers over the last decade and half. Until the signing of Sadio Mane, the Reds’ best winger in recent times was converted striker Dirk Kuyt. But the Reds are said to be looking into a signature that would help improve things in that regard.
According to Sport, Liverpool are said to be after the signing of the Algerian, but they may just be facing competition from Champions League quarter-final opponents in Barcelona and Juventus.
This signing doesn’t make much sense for any of the three sides mentioned in all honesty, and probably less so for the Reds than anyone. Mahrez has seen a bit of an uptick in form of late, but he’s still clearly not the player that he was last season.
The last thing that Jurgen Klopp will want or need is someone that has shown himself to be this inconsistent and just altogether undriven as he’s proven to be throughout this season. Liverpool would be very wise to hold off on this deal and save the money in order to buy another player of high quality.
