Back in November and December, rumors spread that Liverpool were looking to bring in FC Rostov’s Sardar Azmoun. The Iranian international is 22 years old, and he’s been very impressive in European competition throughout the present campaign.
Azmoun confirmed this interest and more in an interview with a Qatari website about the 2022 World Cup and much more. Azmoun said that “There was talk of Liverpool having expressed an interest in me during the winter transfer window, however, I did not feel the time to move was right.”
He then stated that he’d have spent too much time on the bench with the Reds because that was the ‘void’ that they were looking to fill at that point in the season.
This really was the best move for all involved. Liverpool would have had to spend a lot of money on him, only to see him sit on the bench, which would only heap more pressure upon him. Azmoun also gets the chance to develop further before he does eventually decide to move.
There will come a time when he has a chance to move, and that day will see him become a key player for his club rather than just being someone on the fringe.
