Everton youngster Jonjoe Kenny has revealed that being called up to the squad for their December derby against Liverpool was a major boost to his confidence.
The youngster to captains the Merseyside clubs under-23 team feels that being called up for the derby match as well as being a member of the first team squad that travelled to Dubai last month proves that he is making progress as he looks to eventually break into the first team.
“You know that the gaffer knows you,” Kenny said of the derby call-up, “The derby is the biggest game I could ever think to be involved in so it was a massive boost for me. I knew I’d be in the squad a day or two before.”
The 20-year-old made his first team debut for the Toffee’s on the final day of last season, coming on as a substitute against Norwich City but has yet to gain playing time for the first team this season.
