Sunderland manager David Moyes has warned fans of his club not to expect too much too soon as the Black Cats prepare for the return of three key players in the form of Jan Kirchhoff, Victor Anichebe and Lee Cattermole, from injury.
Moyes said, “The thing is people have been out injured, you can’t expect them to come back and hit the ground running, they’ve been out so long. They’ve missed so much. For them to make the difference is not an easy thing to do – they’ve missed most of the season.”
Kirchhoff has taken part in training sessions and is likely to play against Burnley during the weekend in what will be a crucial game for the struggling Black Cats.
However Anichebe and Cattermole are likely to remain out of action for at least another three weeks. With games running out, David Moyes men are six points adrift of safety. They will need to secure points soon or the possibility of avoiding relegation will become more and more unlikely.
