In one of the biggest mismatches in week 10 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Pachuca will host Monarcas Morelia at the Estadio Hidalgo this Saturday, March 11, 2017 (5:06 PM Pacific). Pachuca need points for a playoff push, while Morelia is trying to evade relegation, it is set to be a hard-fought match at the Estadio Hidalgo.
Pachuca has been one of the strongest teams in the Clausura 2017 in second place with 17 points, only behind on goal differential to Chivas in first place. The ‘tuzos’ had an amazing 3-2 victory over Club Tijuana in week 9 of the competition. The win was especially impressive because it was at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, and because Pachuca played without star man, Hirving Lozano for most of the match. Lozano was fouled hard in midfield by Xolos’ defender, Michael Orozco and was rushed to the hospital shortly after. The injury was in Lozano’s right ankle, and unfortunately for Pachuca, the 21-year-old will be out due to the injury for at least a month.
Diego Alonso will need to count on his rigid defense which has led the team all year, achieving six clean sheets in all competitions in 2017. The ‘tuzos’ also have players that can be dangerous going forward like Franco Jara, who has four goals this tournament and Jonathan Urretaviscaya who has one goal and five assists. 18-year-old, Roberto Alvarado also looked solid replacing Hirving Lozano in that game against Club Tijuana, scoring a goal. Pachuca is a well-balanced team that can contend for the title and three points from this game is very probable.
Morelia cannot afford to drop points after a huge 1-0 win against Veracruz in week 9 of the tournament. The win propelled ‘la monarquia’ out of last place in the relegation table, but it is still a very close race with Veracruz only a point behind the team from Michoacán. Every game is a must-win for Morelia at this point and it is difficult as the team will go in as underdogs in all its remaining games. This game is set to be a huge mismatch but Morelia has achieved surprising results in previous weeks, most notably drawing 1-1 to Tigres UANL in week 8 of the competition and beating Tijuana 2-0 in week 1.
Raul Ruidiaz seems to be back to goal-scoring form, after a slow start to the Clausura, now with four goals in the tournament. His countryman, Andy Polo has also proved to be a great addition for ‘la monarquia’ in midfield, providing great linkup play and having scored a goal in five games as a starter. The Monarchs are an interesting team this tournament in 10th place with 12 points, only out of a playoff spot because of goal differential. But of course, the playoffs are not on the player’s minds, with relegation being a danger to the club. The match should be an intriguing encounter in this Jornada 10 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017.
