Sunderland manager David Moyes is refusing to lose hope despite his side moving six points adrift of safety after their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

After the defeat against City, Moyes told Sky Sports, “We’re the ones who are chasing the pack, we have to try and catch the others up.

“We will stick at it, keep doing what we are doing and it will turn. We have to just hope our fortune changes in the coming weeks.”

Moyes, who is in his first season at the helm of the Black Cats, is aware that fighting relegation is not a rare situation for his club as they have done so successfully for the past five seasons.

Sunderland certainly have enough experience in the team to avoid the drop however whether that experience will deliver remains this season to be seen.

The survival hopes of the Black Cats will see an improvement after Victor Anichebe, Lee Cattermole and Jan Kirchhoff are set to return from injury.
