According to BBC Scotland, Celtic and Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon could be set to make Chelsea’s attempts to sign him become even more difficult by sealing a fresh contract.
Gordon, a very experienced goalkeeper who has spent time in England, was thought to have been a target of Chelsea in January as it was rumored that back up Asmir Begovic would be moving on.
However, neither move took place, and it looks like any move for Gordon will be even more difficult to complete at this point. The report states that the deal is likely to secure Gordon at the Glasgow club until 2020.
This makes Celtic’s negotiating stance even more rigid, should it come to that. The Hoops can now simply refuse to negotiate if they like, or they can ask for more money because he has a much longer time on his deal.
Either way, Celtic get a big win here. They’ve kept a great goalkeeper, and they’ve ensured he won’t leave on the cheap.
