In week 28 of the French Ligue 1 Dijon will host OGC Nice at the Stade Gaston Gerard this Saturday, March 4, 2017 (11:00 AM Pacific). The match should be an interesting one with Dijon fighting relegation and Nice fighting for the title.
Dijon has been an interesting team this season, fighting to evade relegation in 18th place with 27 points. The Mustards have only won one game in their last five games, coming against Caen in week 25 of the competition. An interesting result in this span was a 4-2 loss to Lyon in week 25 of the season where Dijon lost a 2-1 lead, Lyon scoring three goals in 10 minutes.
Dijon looked solid for the most part of the game, utilizing a pragmatic style of play but still finding scoring opportunities. Olivier Dall’Oglio does have some talented players on his team, most notably Lois Diony and Julio Tavares who have eight goals each. Lois Diony has been the most impressive of the two, not just scoring but providing good options going forward with six assists.
The Mustards have had made the Stade Gaston Gerard a great fortress, only losing three games in 13 games at home. That and the motivation to evade relegation can make this match especially interesting for Dijon.
Nice have a different type of motivation for the game, fighting for the title in the Ligue 1, in third place with 59 points, only three points back of Monaco in first place. Les Aiglons are coming off a huge victory last week against Montpellier, with an unlikely hero stepping up for the team. After 17 months of being injured, Mickael Le Bihan was participating in his first game back, coming off the bench.
The French striker did the unthinkable scoring two goals, leading his team to victory after being 1-0 down. It will be interesting to see if Le Bihan will start the game, or come off as a secret weapon off the bench. Of course, Mario Balotelli is available for the match after serving a suspension last week. The Italian striker has been a key part of Nice’s attack scoring nine goals on the season.
Lucien Favre will have a heavy reliance on Balotelli for the match with Alassane Plea out due to injury and it will be interesting to see if the Italian striker can carry the weight on his shoulders. Nice have a well-built team with the midfield being a huge component of it with the likes of Jean Seri and Wylan Cyprien, who has seven goals on the season. The match should be a hard-fought, exciting encounter in this week 28 of the Ligue 1.
