In a replay of a week 24 Ligue 1 fixture SC Bastia will host Nantes at the Stade Armand Cesari this Wednesday, March 1, 2017 (10:30 AM Pacific). This is the second year in a row this very fixture has been postponed in the Ligue 1. In 2016 violence between fans and police impeded the game from happening and in this season, harsh rain was the reason the game could not be played on February 8.
The blues are not in the best form, not having won a game in their last nine matches in all competitions. In this span Bastia, has also failed to score more than a goal, being shut out on three occasions. The positive to take from this span is that the Corsican side has not lost at home, getting three draws at the Stade Armand Cesari.
Home-field advantage has been a huge factor for the islanders all season long, only losing three times in 12 games at the Armand Cesari. Unfortunately, Bastia is still a strong candidate to relegate in 19th place with 23 points, four points back of Dijon in 18th place and five points back of Metz in 17th place. The three points from this game can go a long way, if Bastia can get the favorable result from the game.
An interesting player for Bastia in this game could be Sadio Diallo who scored in the week 26 encounter against Monaco, to get his third goal of the season. The game is vital for Bastia and it should be a great game in which the Corsican side should take advantage of the home-field advantage.
Nantes is not fighting relegation in this campaign, but is also not fighting for much, in 12th place with 33 points. The win would be nice to catapult them in the standings to be in ninth place, just behind on goal differential to Rennes in eighth place, but really would not serve much purpose.
The Canaries are currently on a nice run undefeated in their last three games, getting two wins and scoring seven goals in this span. While one of the wins was not all that impressive 3-1 against relegation side, Dijon, in week 25, Nantes defeated Marseille by a score of 3-2. Head Coach, Sergio Conceicao has counted with seven different goalscorers in this span as well, which is quite odd. Top scorer for Nantes, Emiliano Sala did score his sixth goal of the campaign in this run, although, it did come from the penalty spot.
Also, Felipe Pardo scored his first goal with the club since coming over from Olympiacos from loan. The Colombian forward could be the most interesting player to watch in this game with his rapid pace, and having scored a magnificent goal against Dijon last weekend. The Canaries should be able to provide a strong performance against Bastia, although, it could be tough to get a favorable result at the Stade Armand Cesari.
