Sunderland boss David Moyes has confirmed that he had to make changes to his lineup which played against Everton on Saturday at the last minute, and that this may have had negative effects on the Black Cats performance.
Jason Denayer was set to start against the Toffees at Goodison Park but suffered illness and as a result, the Belgian international had to withdraw just before the game.
“He was ill as well. It was a problem because he was in the team we picked on Friday and we’d worked on it. But, on Saturday morning, he didn’t feel well so we had to make a change,” Moyes said.
Sunderland were dominated throughout the entire match and ended up losing 2-0. The best chance of the game for them was Jermain Defoe’s effort which hit the crossbar.
The Black Cats now remain etched to the bottom of the Premier League table and sit three points adrift of safety.
