Young Sunderland striker Andrew Nelson is likely to miss the rest of the season after injuring his knee ligament while on loan with League two outfit Hartlepool United.
The 19-year-old injured his knee four minutes after coming on off the bench during Hartlepool’s clash against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday. An MRI scan confirmed that the ligament damage sustained will likely mean the end of his season.
Hartlepool physio Ian Gallagher confirmed the news, “Andrew has now returned to Sunderland for treatment but the nature of the injury means it’s doubtful that he will be able to play again this season.”
Nelson had joined the League Two club on transfer deadline day. This will certainly come as a blow to the striker as he would have hoped to use the opportunity of playing for Hartlepool to gain valuable experience in order to grow as a player and establish himself as a goalscorer.
