According to West Ham legend and World Cup winner Geoff Hurst, Dimitri Payet’s departure from the Hammers has brought the team to be more united.
Hurst said, “West Ham handled it well by not trying to keep it under lock and key,” Hurst told Standard Sport. “It needs to be sorted, talked about and dealt with. As far as I can see it has been dealt with very well by the club.”
Payet infamously went on strike and refuse to play or train as he tried to force a move to Marseille from West Ham. He eventually joined the Ligue 1 club for £25 million towards the end of the end of the transfer window.
Despite Payet formerly being a key member of the squad, the performances of West Ham have surprisingly improved since he departed. Since he left Slaven Bilic’s side have lost only one of the six games they have played and moved into the top half of the Premiership table.
