Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has issued an injury update on star forward Dwight Gayle which will not be good news to Magpies fans. According to the Spanish manager, he will likely be out for a few weeks.
The Championship top scorer started Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday but lasted only 33 minutes before being substituted. He appeared to be suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury.
The injury of Gayle will certainly come as a blow to Newcastle’s chances of winning the Championship this season, though they do have enough talent in the squad to still top the standings and gain automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
Newcastle will face off against Bristol City on Saturday before taking on promotion chasing teams Brighton on Tuesday and Huddersfield the following Saturday. The promotion taking teams will fancy their chances against the Magpies more due to the injury of its star forward.
