According to The Express, Everton and Manchester City are set to battle each other for the signature of impressive young Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford this summer.
Since Tim Howard’s departure, Everton have struggled to find a new long term first choice goalkeeper. Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg have been given opportunities but have failed to cement the first choice position as their own.
Manchester City have also struggled to find a new quality first choice goalkeeper this season after Joe Hart was sent on loan to Italian club Serie A.
Hart reportedly does not have a future at the Etihad stadium with manager Pep Guardiola seemingly not a fan of him. Claudio Bravo was brought in from Barcelona but has attracted a lot of criticism due to a number of high profile errors.
Pickford has been one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise shambolic Sunderland team this season and a move to clubs where he can be part of a squad that challenges for trophies will definitely attract him.
