Sunderland midfielder Didier N’Dong has urged his team-mates to assist in reducing the workload of veteran striker Jermain Defoe as the struggling club aim to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

David Moyes’ team have been shambolic for the majority of their games and are in last place on the Premier League standings. However they still do have hope of avoiding relegation as they lie just two points adrift of safety.

During an interview, with the Northern Echo, N’Dong highlighted the importance of other players stepping up and assisting Defoe.

The midfielder said, “I think we need to score more goals as a team and not just one man. It needs to be collectively that we’re adding goals. So we have to believe in ourselves that we can do it and help the team.”

Should the other players display similar performances to Defoe, there is indeed a chance that they will avoid the drop.
