Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has dismissed the rumours linking the Scottish champions with a move for Rennes goalkeeper Benoit Costil.
Earlier in the day, French publication L’Equipe had claimed that the Hoops have scouted the French goalkeeper on multiple occasions and are interested in signing him during the summer.
The 29-year-old’s current contract with the Ligue 1 club expires in the summer and he will become a free agent in the summer.
The report also claimed that the Celts are facing competition from Serie A side Fiorentina, who unsuccessfully tried to sign the player in January.
However, the rumour was vehemently denied by Rodgers following his side’s 2-0 league win over Motherwell later in the day.
He was quoted by the Scottish Sun as saying: “Tell me why I would be interested in him? Why would I want him when I have Craig Gordon, who’s the sweeper keeper and who’s top class?”
It is worth mentioning that Gordon was a transfer target for Premier League leaders Chelsea in January, but the Celts reportedly rejected a £5million bid from the Blues for the 34-year-old.
