In the first match of the CONCACAF U20 Championship, Canada and Honduras will face-off this Friday, February 17, 2017 (3:30 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Ayma. The tournament which is hosted in Costa Rica, will decide which four teams will represent CONCACAF at this year’s U20 World Cup in South Korea.
Canada and Honduras form part of Group A which also includes Mexico and Antigua & Barbuda. The top two teams in the group will reach the classification stage. While ‘catracho’ and ‘el tri’ are favored to win the group, Canada will have a good opportunity to reach the next round with a win against their Friday rivals. The ‘canucks’ have several interesting players in their squad like defender Zachary Brault-Guillard who is a member of French-side Lyon, or forward Liam Millar who is with Liverpool in the Premier League.
Honduras has a squad filled with players from their domestic league. The ‘catrachos’ coached by Jorge Jimenez understand that in order to have a shot at winning the group they will have to earn the three points against Canada. The ‘catrachos, have won this tournament twice, the last time being in 1994.
