Evergreen Sunderland forward Jermain Defoe has admitted that his mother asks him about when he will retire from playing to focus on his coaching badges.
Defoe has been the one livewire in Sunderland’s attack this season in what has been a frustrating season thus far for the Black Cats
Despite being 34, the striker has shown that he still possesses the ability to compete at the highest level by notching 14 goals this season, which has also kept Sunderland’s hopes alive of avoiding relegation this season.
Defoe did confirm that he does not know when he will eventually decide to quit the game and is not looking forward to the day as he is afraid that he will miss playing professionally upon retiring.
He told Sky Sports News, “My mum keeps asking me, ‘How long are you going to play for? When are you going to do your coaching badges?’ I don’t know, to be honest. It’s just like life, I take each day as it comes.”
