Leeds United handed huge injury blow ahead of Bristol clash

Leeds United centre-back Pontus Jansson is expected to miss Tuesday’s league home clash against Bristol City.

Leeds suffered their second consecutive defeat in the league on Saturday as they lost 2-0 to Cardiff City at Elland Road on Saturday.

The defeat against the Bluebirds left the Whites fifth in the league and allowed Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City to cut the deficit.

Defender Pontus Jansson was a surprise omission from the match day squad for the Whites, and following the game, manager Gary Monk revealed that the Swedish footballer missed the game due to an illness.

He said, “Pontus rang in ahead of the game and said he was ill, so he will be a doubt for Tuesday.

“It is a short turnaround, and if you are ill on the Saturday, it is unlikely you are going to recover for the Tuesday.”

The 25-year-old joined Leeds from Serie A club Torino on a loan deal in the summer. However, his move turned into a £3.5 million permanent deal after he triggered the appearance-related transfer clause in his deal in January.

Jansson has made 22 league appearances for Monk’s side this season, and he will be a big miss on Tuesday.
