DeAndre Yedlin has told the Chronicle that advice from Obafemi Martins played a role in his move from Tottenham to Newcastle United during the summer. Having been club-mates at MLS club Seattle Sounders, Yedlin and Martins will know each other well.
Despite attracting interest from Premier League clubs, Yedlin chose to join Newcastle, who had then just been relegated from the Premiership to the Championship.
Yedlin said, “I spoke to Obafemi Martins before I made the move to Newcastle. He actually spoke to me a bit about Newcastle before I even came over to Europe. Oba was speaking about how much he enjoyed it here at this club so Newcastle were always in the back of my head.”
So far, Yedlin’s move to Newcastle has been beneficial to his development as a player. His defending has been good and his lighting pace has also assisted the team in the attacking department.
He is now the clubs first choice right back and appears to have grown in confidence since his departure from Tottenham.
