Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has taken the time to speak to the press about his side’s mentality, or lack thereof. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Lallana said some damning things about himself and his teammates.
Lallana said in reference to Chelsea: “You can see they have a lot of experience and that they are used to winning. They know how to win games when not at their best.”
This type of quote, while true, is just a terrible thing to have to admit publicly. Lallana is speaking frankly and correctly, but it’s such a sad thing to say.
No sides just has wins handed to them. Chelsea earned them to begin with, and now they are profiting from that experience. It speaks to their level of desire and tactical nous as well.
Chelsea, unlike Liverpool, have multiple ways to beat an opponent. They can beat them with swift counterattacks or they can cripple you by taking all of the sting out of the game. They can play with finesse or power, or some combination in between.
Until Liverpool stop feeling sorry for themselves and making poor excuses, they can continue to expect to see their league position getting worse and worse.
