Celtic youngster Luke Donnelly has joined Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton on a three-month loan deal. The 21-year-old striker is way down the pecking order at the Hoops and is yet to make a senior appearance for them.

He spent the first half of the season on loan at Scotland League One side Alloa Athletic. He managed to score one goal in nine appearances for Alloa.

The striker has now been sent to a higher league where he expects to get valuable first-team experience.

“Celtic can confirm that Luke Donnelly has joined Championship side Greenock Morton on an emergency loan deal until May 9,” a club statement said.

“Everyone at Celtic would like to wish Luke all the best for his time at Cappielow.”

He will join his Celtic youth teammates in Jamie Lindsay and Aidan Nesbitt. Both of them have been playing for Greenock Morton since the beginning of the season.

Morton jointly occupy the third spot with Falkirk in the Championship table.

The youngster’s contract with the Hoops runs out in the summer of 2017, and it appears that he won’t be donning the jersey of the Celts anytime soon.
