Roberto Martinez highlights major concern for Everton despite stunning victory

Former Everton manager Roberto Martinez has claimed that Everton still maintain the defensive frailties that were present at the club during his tenure as manager.

Everton have been impressive this season and there 6-3 victory against Bournemouth on Saturday saw them move to within six points of the Champions League positions.

During his appearance on Sky Sports Goals on Sunday, Martinez highlighted that the defensive problems which he experienced while coaching the club are still there.

The Spaniard said, “As a fan you always want to see teams scoring goals and winning games. This performance was about that. The only worry is that we had defensive fragility last year and it cost us too many points.”

The defensive weakness within the Everton team was what ultimately led to the sacking of Martinez as Everton struggled to maintain consistent form under his leadership.

Martinez has been impressed by the form of talismanic Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, who he manages with the Belgian national team.
