Everton star says he is refusing to ‘moan’ despite struggles

Everton captain Phil Jagielka has refused to “moan” despite his status at the club this season, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

The 34-year-old has struggled for game time this season under Ronald Koeman and many expect that he will part ways with the Toffees during the summer.

Jagielka was rumored to have been a target of other clubs during the January transfer window but Koeman insisted that he was not for sale and said that the veteran wished to fight for his place.

The defender has confirmed that he wishes to fight for his place back in the team whilst writing his program notes ahead of Everton’s win against Bournemouth on Saturday.

He wrote “As for myself, it’s obviously very frustrating not to be playing regularly at the moment but that’s football and all I can do is keep working hard in training and wait for an opportunity.

“It’s not my style to moan about my situation and I’ve been in the game long enough to know that things can change quickly.”

At Jagielka’s age and with the three at the back that Koeman has preferred, it however looks unlikely that he will manage to win his place back in the team.
