Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone has described the current football season as one of the “craziest” he has ever been involved in according to the Sunderland Echo.
The Black Cats are in last place on the Premier League table, currently five points away from safety and take on Crystal Palace on Saturday in what will be a battle between two sides fighting to avoid relegation.
Sunderland are struggling to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season and have also been hampered by injuries to key players such as Jordan Pickford, Lee Cattermole, Jan Kirchhoff and Victor Anichebe.
Mannone started the season as Sunderland’s first choice goalkeeper. However after suffering an elbow injury, the young Pickford was called up who impressed and claimed the starting spot. However Mannone was again called up to play after Pickford suffered an injury.
The Italian is not new to relegation battles and told Sky Sports HQ, “It has been one of the craziest seasons that I’ve been through, I’m always trying to use my experience and after being involved in a few survivals I’ve learned a few things and I always try to pass it on to my team-mates, especially the boys who are new to the Premier League or just new to the team.”
