Week 5 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017 will start with a rematch of week 2 of the Copa MX with Puebla hosting Atlas at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc. The match was originally scheduled for Sunday, February 5, but because of the Super Bowl it will be scheduled on Friday, February 3, 2017. (5:30 PM Pacific). Puebla got the best of Atlas in the Copa MX defeating them 1-0, but the Liga Mx is a completely different tournament that should offer a completely different score line.

The ‘camoteros’ will be under the command of new manager, Jose Cardozo after Ricardo Valino was sacked during the week. Puebla is arguably the worst side in the Liga MX with the least amount of depth to offer. They are also in an unstable situation with a new manager and the possibility of being sold by the Lopez Chargoy family. ‘La franja’ have only accumulated one point in five weeks of play and could possibly find themselves in relegation trouble with teams like Chiapas, Monarcas and Veracruz all playing above their standards.

The bright spots within this dismantled franchise have been the Argentine duo of Gabriel Esparza and Alexis Canelo. Esparza has been the main playmaker for ‘la franja’ contributing in many goals and scoring opportunities throughout the Clausura. While Canelo is one of the top goal-scorers in the league with three up to this point of the campaign. It will be interesting to see if Jose Cardozo does change up the lineup and see how he works with this troubling team.

Atlas is coming off a big 3-1 victory over Monarcas Morelia at the Estadio Jalisco, where all their victories have been this season. With the ‘zorros’ not playing in the Jalisco, that really gives hope to Jose Cardozo and Puebla. Most recently Jose Cruz’s men did fall 1-0 away from home against relegation candidates, Veracrzuz. The most interesting thing to see in this game will be the return of Matias Alustiza to the Estadio Cuauhtémoc.

The Argentine striker is of course one of the best players Puebla has had in recent times and he did have several great moments at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc so it should be interesting how he gets on wearing a black and red jersey. It was also said that Clifford Aboagye is likely to start this match, the Ghanaian midfielder does have potential but has not been given enough minutes to showcase it. The match should showcase a few goals with Puebla having conceded 11 goals so far and Atlas having conceded 6.
