Over the last 24 hours, Newcastle have been linked with two surprise names in the transfer market.
According to Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Magpies manager Rafa Benitez has registered an interest in Leganes midfielder Gabriel Appelt Pires. The Brazilian spent last season on loan with the Spanish club and helped them earn promotion to La Liga.
In summer, he joined Leganes on a permanent deal from Juventus. This season, he has scored two goals and provided one assist in 20 appearances for the 17th-placed side.
The Magpies are looking to sign the player on an expensive initial loan with an option to buy him if the earn promotion to Premier League in May.
Meanwhile, Daily Mail has linked Newcastle with Angers forward Nicolas Pepe. According to the report, the Magpies and Hull City has made enquiries for the 21-year-old, who has scored two league goals this season.
Liverpool, West Brom and Everton have also reportedly watched the young striker this season.
