Rodgers responds to rumours of Celtic Star’s move to Chelsea

After reporting rumors of a possible Chelsea move for Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon, Brendan Rodgers has moved quickly to quash all of the rumors by saying that the club “has an option” to extend his contract and then stating that it “is not something we would consider, really.”

The rumors all started because of the status of Chelsea’s #2 goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.  Since leaving Stoke City to join Chelsea, he has been stuck behind Thibault Courtouis with the exception of the early part of last season.  Begovic is a top-notch goalkeeper, and Bournemouth have been rumored to have attempted to sign him.

This would be an excellent move for both Begovic and Bournemouth, but it would leave Chelsea shorthanded.  Their answer for all of this is apparently the Scot Craig Gordon.

Celtic, despite not wanting to sell him, might want to consider it if it is a good offer.  A good offer could see them pick up a good, young goalkeeper that is more progressive in nature.  Someone that they can build around and/or sell for bigger money down the line.  We’ll see if there’s any movement, but it seems unlikely right now.
