Liverpool are well and truly in crisis mode now. Defeat to Southampton in the first leg by a solitary goal to nil was not all that unexpected. But a defeat by the same score at Anfield was unacceptable from the Reds.
For the umpteenth time this year, Liverpool looked toothless in attack. Even with Adam Lallana installed back into the midfield, Liverpool never looked like much of a threat. Against teams that lock it down at the back, they have no way to get through.
Look at teams like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. When they have things going against them, they have a threat from the middle of the park with height. This was one of the problems that Liverpool had under Rodgers.
And it’s returned once again. On top of that, Liverpool’s strikers are devoid of all confidence right now, and it could be a long road to get back to the form that we saw them in the early parts of the season.
