Despite showing interest in Stoke City center back Marc Muniesa, reports (Stoke Sentinel) out of the area state that Real Betis have given up on their attempts to land the former Barcelona man.  Muniesa, 24, has been a good player for Stoke City throughout his spell at the club.

He’s found playing time difficult to come by this season as he’s largely been working on his fitness and dealing with injury concerns.  It’s said that the Spaniard has grown a little frustrated at a lack of playing time, but Mark Hughes is still very keen to see him stay with the Potters.

Muniesa is an ideal player for Stoke when they want to use a three man back line.  But outside of that, he’s always going to be a back-up due to the form of Ryan Shawcross and Bruno Martins Indi.  Muniesa will have to bide his time if he wants to undo that partnership.

Real Betis will be disappointed that they didn’t sign the versatile ball-playing defender, but Stoke will be just fine to keep him right where he is for the time being.
