Atlas will make their Copa Corona MX debut this Wednesday, January 25, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc against Puebla F.C. The ‘camoteros’ are coming from a 1-1 draw to Mineros de Zacatecas in week 1 of the competition, while Atlas will be making their debut in the tournament. Any championship at this point is valuable to Atlas, so Jose Guadalupe Cruz and his players may see the tournament in distinct fashion.

The ‘rojinegros’ are coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss to Veracruz away from home at the Estadio Luis Pirata Fuente. Atlas has always been known as an institution that produces young talent within Mexico and they will be showcasing it in this competition. Some of the younger players that could be given a chance include Martin Barragan, Edson Rivera, Gaddi Aguirre, and Ghanaian midfielder, Clifford Aboagye who is only 21-years old. Luis Robles, Miguel Fraga and Rodolfo Salinas are among the veterans Jose Cruz will have at his disposal. The young core of Atlas will be interesting to see against Puebla and their experienced players.

Puebla showed that they do care a bit about the Copa MX last week when they tied 1-1 to Zacatecas and used many solid players. Overall the lineup that Ricardo Valino presented was strong with players like Fabian Villansenor, Edgar Dueñas, Francisco Acuña, Carlos Orrantia, Francisco Torres, Jeronimo Amione, and Cesar Gutierrez.

Eight players that were in the lineup against Mineros de Zacatecas were used in their latest Liga MX matchup against Queretaro. With their situation in the Liga MX looking much more complicated, Valino may want to reconsider using so many key players against Atlas. Either way the matchup should be interesting between two top division teams in Mexico.
