The MLS could make the signing of yet another Mexican national team player, the destination being the Los Angeles Galaxy. Jonathan Dos Santos is strongly rumored to join his older brother, Giovani Dos Santos, at Galaxy during this winter transfer season in what would have the brothers play for the same team a fourth time in their careers (previously FC Barcelona, Villarreal, and Mexico).
Jonathan Dos Santos is currently living one of the best moments of his career with Villareal in Spain’s la Liga. At 26-years-old, the Mexican international midfielder could soon see a career change, influenced by his older brother Giovani.
This move would be a high-profile signing for the LA team and the MLS as it would add another high-caliber player in its prime years. In an interview with Univision, Giovani mentioned that there has been an approach made by the Galaxy toward Jonathan and that both sides are interested in a move; however, nothing has been defined.
While this transfer would be a fantastic signing for the MLS and Galaxy (after the departures of midfielders Steven Gerrard and A.J. DeLaGarza), this move would be great for Jonathan’s pockets, but not great for his overall playing career. As a starter with Villarreal, Jonathan is playing in one of the world’s top leagues against top opponents like FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid. Moreover, his team is currently in 6th place meaning there is a real possibility he could play in European championships next season.
Since the younger Dos Santos brother does find himself in the prime of his career the move to the MLS can prove to be detrimental to his overall progression as a footballer. It would be nice to see the Dos Santos brothers reunited again, yet this may go against his progression as a footballer.
