Aston Villa are back in contention for Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury, following the recent developments at the East Midlands club. Birmingham Mail reports that Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi could be forced to sell his skipper following a failed takeover of the club.
Al Hasawi had been involved in takeover talks with United States-based consortium led by John Jay Moors, but the talks broke down on Friday.
The report claims that Al Hasawi took a £2.2 million loan from Moors to pay the club wages in December and, now, he could be forced to sell the midfielder to recoup the amount.
Villa have reportedly already submitted a £3m for the player, who only has six months left on his current deal.
Villa manager Steve Bruce has already confirmed his interest in the player. On Friday, he said: “We are interested in Henri, but that’s as far as we’re at right now.
“There’s a takeover going on at Forest, so it’s difficult with that in the background.”
The former Arsenal star has sat out of Forest’s last two games and, at the moment, it looks certain that he will be changing clubs this month.
