According to the Daily Mail, Everton center back Phil Jagielka is set to have talks with the club about his future. The 34 year old has been a long time servant of the club, but he’s obviously not going to be seen a first choice player for much longer.
Ronald Koeman has made it clear that things are changing at Goodison Park, and with that, Jagielka will have to find a different sort of role. The Daily Mail goes on to state that two club are interested in his services: Sunderland and West Ham.
Both sides desperately need help defensively, Sunderland even more so than West Ham. Sunderland have lost Lamine Kone, of the few they could trust in, and will want someone with some experience to come in and marshal the side.
West Ham have been leaking goals of late, the 0-5 defeat at the Olympic Stadium being particularly troubling.
No matter what happens, it will be a temporary move to paper over the cracks of a side at center back. Jagielka is excellent, but he is aging quickly. Look for him to leave as Everton are keen to raise funds.
