According to the Daily Star, Liverpool are considering whether or not they should sign West Ham winger Dimitri Payet. Payet, 29 years old, has been confirmed by his manager Slaven Bilic as a player that wants to leave.
Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp is apparently an admirer of the Frenchman who helped his nation reach the Euro 2016 final. Payet is most well-known for his free kicks and corner kicks. Whether they are going for goal or setting up a teammate, they are deadly.
While Klopp may admire Payet and appreciate his talents, he doesn’t really look like a modern Liverpool player to me. Payet doesn’t have the pace or work rate to fit into Klopp’s system without having to be shoehorned into the side.
While his free kicks are great, they aren’t good enough to have a passenger on the field throughout the match. Liverpool have James Milner and Philippe Coutinho in the side to take set pieces, and Jordan Henderson will be back before too long.
Look for Liverpool to hang on to their money and look elsewhere for younger players that will have many years to play at the club.
