According to Everton Football Club’s official website, Morgan Schneiderlin will be joining the club from Manchester United in a reported four and a half year deal. Schneiderlin had only been at United for about 18 months, and the 27 year old will feel he still has plenty to offer with the Toffees.
According to the club themselves, Schneiderlin has been signed for 20m initially, but the figure could rise to 24m. This is an awful big investment in a player, but Ronald Koeman knows exactly what he’s buying in the Frenchman as he has already managed him before at Southampton.
This is a move that was desperately needed for the Toffees. Their central midfield has looked old, weak, and tired this season, and Koeman has not always enjoyed the options available to him. James McCarthy has been poor, Koeman has called on Ross Barkley to pick up his play, and Gareth Barry has seemed to have finally lost a step.
This is a big move for Everton as they’ve spent a lot of money, but they had to get the engine room sorted out before they could build elsewhere. With the spine nearly sorted out now, Koeman can look to tweak his side in other areas, particularly out wide.
