According to the Telegraph, Mark Hughes is set to bring about the end of one of the most ridiculous transfer sagas in history by chasing after Saido Berahino. Berahino, playing under former Stoke manager Tony Pulis, has received little time on the pitch despite being one of West Brom’s best players for years.
He’s only 23 years old, and he has a big upside to go. He’s turned down a contract at West Brom (not very surprising there), and he’s now setting his sights on being able to move elsewhere as he only has six months remaining with the Baggies.
Stoke, for their part, don’t want to wait until summer. They want to make an agreement now. West Brom will be difficult, it looks, to bargain with and it may well come down to the summer.
Stoke are in need of strikers as it looks like Bojan could be leaving. They’ve also not gotten much from Wilfried Bony, who is currently away anyway. Berahino could help Crouch out quite a lot, but we know Pulis has bad blood there. Don’t expect this one to get done very soon.
