Just like a picture, a soccer celebration can say a thousand words. Celebrations can be comical, political, and sometimes even offensive. Well On Sunday, Monterrey midfielder, Edwin Cardona made a big statement with his celebration. The fate of several stars from Liga MX is uncertain. Dayro Moreno just left Xolos of Tijuana to join Atletico Nacional. Hirving Lozano is said to play in Europe this year, even Andre-Pierre Gignac may be leaving Tigres UANL. Then we have Edwin Cardona.
Cardona has been a controversial figure in Liga MX. Many times the Colombian midfielder has been seen as arrogant and he has been rumored to leave for other teams in the past including Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. Cardona started out on the bench for the Club Puebla vs Monterrey game on Sunday which was certainly a shock, and may have caused worry for Rayados fans.

In the 71st minute “Crackdona” finally came on and it would be Colombian for Colombian as Yimmi Chara would come off the pitch. Cardona did get his time to shine in the 86th minute, via a penalty for Rayados of Monterrey. The Colombian International took the penalty beautifully into the bottom left corner of Cristian Camepestrini’s net securing Rayados 3-2 win over the “Camoteros”. Cardona would jet to the right corner flag and celebrate with his team mates, in front of the Monterrey fans who made it out to the Estadio Cuauhtémoc.
After his teammates dispersed, Cardona remained near the corner flag. Edwin kissed the Rayados Badge and made a gesture signifying that he was here to stay with his team. There are many players whose fates may be uncertain, but Cardona made it clear that he will remain in the Liga MX.
