After over three years at Anfield, Tiago Ilori will be departing for Reading having failed to make much of a name for himself, according to BBC. Ilori, only 23 years old still, has a long career ahead of him, but Jurgen Klopp will not be his manager as he sees it out.
Ilori was brought in by Brendan Rodgers in 2013 from Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, and at the time he looked a good buy for only £3.5m. That was a time when the club were short on quality defenders. He’d be loaned out early on, but he never latched on when he returned.
Now, it is reported, that he’ll be sold for £3.75m to the Championship club Reading, a decent, if not great, investment for Liverpool. Reading are in third place in the league and only six points back from an automatic promotion spot.
Ilori could help them get back to the Premier League now. In the end, this seems like a good deal for all parties. Each will have a chance to grow on their own now.
