Xolos of Tijuana lose fan-favorite star striker – Dayro Moreno transfers to Atletico Nacional

After weeks of rumors surrounding Dayro Moreno regarding a transfer away from Xolos of Tijuana, Atletico Nacional just announced that they will sign the Colombian forward for their next season. Moreno led the Clausura 2016 Liga MX with 11 goals, helping Xolos finish the regular season in 1st place with 33 points.

The ‘verdolagas’ announced that the star will be travelling this week to Medellin for his physical exams and soonafter join the squad in their pre-season prior to the start to the Liga Aguila and Copa Libertadores.

With Moreno’s departure, Xolos would lose a second significant starter to transfers after Gabriel Hauche left for Toluca during the Liga MX off-season. Moreover, Tijuana has not made any major signings other than the unproven Argentine forward Juan Martin Lucero who recently played in Malasia.

Unfortunately, Xolos fans are used to management transferring fan favorite players without a significant signing to fill the gaps left by the departures. This was the case when stars like Duvier Riascos, Cristian Pellerano, or Dario Benedetto were sold and the team consequently suffered as the squad lacked significant star power. With Dayro leaving, Xolos has three weeks to make a serious international transfer to help the team’s offense who at the moment lost two important elements in Hauche and Moreno.
